SLC exams begin today

KATHMANDU, March 17 - The School Leaving Certificate examination starts on Monday at 8:00 am. In this year’s examination, 379,377 students are expected to appear throughout the country.
According to Office of the Controller of Examination (OCE), of the total, 319,532 are regular students. Among them, 171,944 are boys and 147,588 are girls. Similarly, 59,845 exempted students are going to appear.
Among them, 25,057 are boys while the number of girls is 34,788.
According to Harka Prasad Shrestha, examination controller, this year the number of students has increased by 9.27 percent compared to last year. Last year, 347,185 students had appeared in the examination.
This year, the OCE has increased the number of examination centers, said Shrestha. The allocated number of examination centers across the country is 1,299.
In order to run the examination smoothly, over 13,000 security personnel are going to be deployed along with 36,500 teachers and employees.
Citing Constituent Assembly election, the OCE preponed the examination date by one and half week.
“We have completed all preparations to conduct the examination in a peaceful manner in all examination centers,” assured Shrestha.
Issuing a statement, OCE sought support from students, teachers, guardians, security personnel, teacher’s unions, media, civil society and political parties to conduct the examination in peaceful manner.
